The Story

Arthur Dent hadn't had a day as bad as this since the Earth had been blown up. Depressed and alone, Arthur finally settles on the small planet Lamuella and becomes a sandwich maker. Looking forward to a quiet life, his plans are thrown awry by the unexpected arrival of his daughter. There's nothing worse than a frustrated teenager with a copy of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in their hands. When she runs away - Arthur goes after her determined to save her from the horrors of the universe. After all - he's encountered most of them before...

Mostly Harmless is the fifth book in the brilliant Hitchhiker series, with a new foreword by Dirk Maggs.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy iPhone edition

On 12 October 1979 the most remarkable book ever to come out of the great publishing corporations of Ursa Minor (and Earth) was made available to humanity - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Pan Macmillan is celebrating thirty years of planet-hopping comic genius with the publication of special editions of Douglas Adams' iconic books.

This ebook, specifically designed for the iPhone, features

  • The full novel, which feels like reading a book, not a web page, with page turning so natural you won't even notice it, thanks to the Eucalyptus reader
  • High quality fonts and typesetting to provide the optimal reading experience, meaning you can get lost in the story, not frustrated by the text
  • Resizing text with a pinch of your fingers at any time
  • Exclusive material from the Pan Macmillan archive. A further version of the App will be released in October allowing you to upgrade for free, with even more archive material including audio clips, historic book covers and radio script excerpts.
  • All five of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series of books are available to purchase as individual apps.

About The Author

Douglas Adams was born in 1952 and created all the various and contradictory manifestations of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: radio, novels, TV, computer game, stage adaptation, comic book and bath towel. His series has sold over 15 million books in the UK, the US and Australia and was also a bestseller in German and many other languages. Douglas lived with his wife and daughter in Islington, North London, and briefly in California, where he died in 2001.

Version 2.0 of the App

View the entire series from one app! There is now a Galaxy bookstore for you to buy and store your Hitchhiker titles. If you have bought any other books in the series, they will be available from your Galaxy Carousel, and if you would like to purchase any other titles you can do it from within the app too.

You will have free access to the first chapter of any book that you don't yet own.

There is a Don't Panic archive for each book that you own, containing exclusive pictures, press releases and more from the Pan Macmillan archive of Douglas Adams material.

Also added is an interactive DIY sticker cover. You don't need the paperback to customise your book! You will be able to add, move, rotate and resize a set of stickers onto your front cover, and even email them to a friend. No need for a scanner here! The stickers are transferred to the book's cover and the Galaxy Carousel.

If you own The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, you will also have access to a range of extras:

  • An excerpt from the audiobook read by Stephen Fry
  • Past covers of the book
  • Resizing text with a pinch of your fingers at any time
  • An excerpt from the radio script
  • A link to Marvin's Moan Twitter feed
  • A link to a YouTube video of Marvin making his DIY sticker cover
  • A link to the Hitchhiker DIY cover Flickr group
